Resurrection is rich with music. Our space has wonderful acoustics. Many parishioners sing in our choirs and play a variety of instruments during our worship. We are blessed to have a 2004 Brombaugh tracker organ that is used both at worship and to offer special concerts throughout the year.
Adult Choir: This choir sings at our 10:30 a.m liturgy and on other feast days during the year. They sing music drawing on the breadth of the Church’s musical heritage, including traditional hymns, the best of contemporary works and hymns, Taize, chants, Anglican chant, early Church music, Gospel and world music. The choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:15 p.m. to 9:00 p.m (September through June) and is directed by Lucy Strandlien.
CORAME (the Church of the Resurrection Alternative Music Ensemble) is a special part of our music ministry. This instrumental music group supplements the Resurrection Choir and Sunday worship, incorporating a wide range of instruments (guitar, mandolin, bodhran, flute, and so on). The CORAME ensemble accompanies primarily more recent hymns and songs, with special gifts in Gospel, American Spiritual and world music. When it best fits the lessons for the week, CORAME may lead an entire service (affectionately and historically called “folk mass”). Regular CORAME musicians include Dick and Ty Zeller, Lee Anne Robertson, and Bruce Sedgwick. Other congregational members with musical gifts also contribute.
Choristers: Choristers is our young person’s choir. They prepare an offertory anthem for the first Sunday of each month and join with the adult choir on that Sunday to help lead us in all the hymns and music. From time to time they participate in larger Diocesan liturgies and events, and each year in the late spring do a special Choristers’ concert for Resurrection. All young people ages 5-17 are welcome to join. Choristers’ (and their families) also gather on a regular basis for fun social activities. Choristers’ rehearse on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. (September through June) with a potluck dinner following, and are directed by Carrie Warner with assistance by Bridey Connolly. For more information and updates, visit the Choristers page on Facebook!
Choral Evensong: Two to three times per year we offer special Sunday afternoon choral evensongs.
Messiah Sing-a-Long: A Resurrection tradition! Each year soon after Christmas we offer a community Messiah Sing-a-Long followed by refreshments.
Our parish musician is Andrew Nelson who provides organ and piano accompaniment at our services.
If interested in participating in our music ministry or to inquire about using the space for a concert or recital, please call the church at 686-8462 to get in touch with Lucy, Andrew or Carrie.
