Brent, and group meals all in a peaceful woodsy setting along the beautiful McKenzie River.  Lodging consists of private rooms in A-frame lodges with shared bathrooms. 6 meals (vegan, gluten-free) are included.  Cost including lodging and meals is $131 per person. Scholarships are available.  Contact Sandra Wu for more information.

The Commonweal/America the Beautiful discussion group meets monthly to talk about contemporary social/political issues from a Christian perspective.  The next meeting is on Sunday, October 14, at 4:00 p.m. in the Yellow Room.  The topic is “How Can the Deep Divisions in Public Positions be Overcome.”  For each meeting there is a reading and some questions to consider.  If interested, contact Ed Lawry to get the materials.  We welcome new perspectives.

COMMUNITY EVENTS

Free Documentary Film Screening of 101 Seconds, Sunday, October 14th, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., at the UO Erb Memorial Union, Room 214.  The screening and a town hall discussion is hosted by State of Safety, a new statewide nonprofit dedicated to reducing gun violence across Oregon.  This film depicts the debate concerning gun violence in Oregon following the 2012 Clackamas Town Center Shooting.

Pipe Screams 2018!! 4:00 PM, Sunday, Oct. 28 at First Congregational Church (23rd and Harris).  This recital by members and friends of the Eugene Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will be hosted by Master of Ceremonies, Dr. Scott Johnson. Wearing wild and crazy costumes, while playing frighteningly fun, wonderfully wacky, silly and spooky Halloween music, the performers include organists ElRay Stewart-Cook, Lindsey Rodgers, Mike Reiter, Brad Schultz, Joy Schroeder, and Barbara Baird. There will also be a special appearance of the Joyful Noise Children’s Choir of First Congregational Church, directed by Debi Noel and Jennifer Sellers. This year’s program will feature hair-raising renditions ranging from Bach’s “Toccata and Fugue in d” to PDQ Bach’s “Preloud” and “OK Chorale.” A howling good time will be had by all. Bring your friends and family, particularly the young and young at heart, for this celebration of music for the haunting Halloween season. Costumes are encouraged.  This event is a fundraiser to sponsor The Organ Loft which airs Sundays on KWAX radio station, so a freewill offering will be received, as well as canned food donations for Food for Lane County. (Monetary donations are tax deductible.) There is no charge for admission.
