Announcements & Prayers

Announcements for the week of December 3rd

ADULT FORMATION

Centering Prayer is a form of Christian contemplation rooted in Scripture and presented in an updated format to make it available to ordinary people who are experiencing a hunger for a deeper life of prayer.  It is a type of silent meditation whereby letting go of thoughts is seen as consenting to the presence and action of God in our everyday lives.  During Advent, Centering Prayer will be presented, practiced, and discussed on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Join us on December 6th, 13th and 20th.

CONGREGATIONAL EVENTS

The HSK Advent Giving Tree is a project to raise funds for the Home Starter Kits ministry.  The demand has been steadily increasing.  Pick up information in the back of the church next to the tree, and help us decorate with ornaments made by the children.  Your gift is most welcome and will help keep alive a program that assists those making milestone transitions in their lives.

Lector Ministry The Lector Ministry is always looking for new voices in this very important service to the church. If interested, please contact Kim Gill.

Choristers and families are going caroling on December 17th after the greening of the church.  Everyone is welcome to join.

Join the Lunch Bunch, an “equal opportunity unisex group,” at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays at local restaurants for lunch and fellowship at the following locations:
December 5, Sixth St. Grill, 55 W. 6th Ave.
December 12, Plank Town, 346 Main St., Springfield
December 19, Chapala, 68 E. 29th Ave.

Mark Hubbell is available to work, inside and outside jobs.

COMMUNITY EVENTS

First United Methodist is hosting Advent Organ Recitals on Fridays at noon, featuring seasonal music on the beautiful Hochhalter pipe organ.  These forty-five minute concerts are designed to provide a time of respite from the busy-ness of the season; free and open to all.  This Friday, December 8, at noon – Dr. Barbara Baird (organist at First Congregational Church and organ faculty, University of Oregon) plays music of Langlais, Purvis and Walcha.
