Christian Formation
Classes will be in session starting this Sunday, October 11. At 9:15 for the next weeks we’ll be looking at the very earliest history of the Church with a Bible study of the Acts of the Apostles and referencing some of the other letters of Paul. From there we’ll have a brief look at the often very fanciful and extremely sketchy traditions that developed around the travels and martyrdom of the 12 Apostles. We’ll wind up with a look at some of what they might have taught (again, a bit sketchy) in addition to what we read in the bible in three early documents: The Didache, the Didascalia Apostolorum, and the Apostolic Tradition of Hippolytus. These three documents will lead us naturally into a study of sacramental theologylater in the church year.
Additionally, at a time and place to be determined, we’ll be offering some form of Newcomer’s Class. Depending of what’s most needed, this class might be anything from a brief introduction to the Episcopal Church and Resurrection in particular to a full catechesis in preparation for Baptism or Confirmation. If you are new to the church and want to learn more or if you’ve been around for a while and would like a refresher, join the discussion in the Yurt this Sunday after the 10:30 service. We’ll be planning what the class will cover and when and how it should meet.
Finally, beginning on October 20, Deacon Lauri will be leading an online discussion of the book, “For Such a Time as This.” The group will meet via Zoom on Tuesday evenings, and you can see Lauri’s article in this TuneUp for more information.
Whatever you’d like to learn, we’ll look forward to seeing you for this year’s classes and discussions!
