Deacon’s Deliberations

This coming Sunday is a Resurrection Sunday for me.  I am so looking forward to seeing all of you.  I heard that last Sunday went well under the able direction of Don and Kathleen.  

It is Wednesday as I write this.  I think the sermon is forming around boats.  Don’t hold me to that, but it’s a strong possibility.  Boats are my favorite mode of transportation and recreation.

Speaking of boats—we are all in the same boat.  In the world of huge luxury cruise ships, the variety of people on each ship is fascinating.  Each one comes with a different background, different life experiences, and different needs.  In our little boat here at Resurrection, we hold people from many walks of life.  We are a lifeboat for some.  4 of the people we help live in our tiny homes—Hospitality Village.  Hospitality Village is in need of renewed funding.  It is not part of Resurrection’s budget and has been funded in the past with donations and grants. As part of our boat, it is our privilege and responsibility to help provide for the maintenance and preservation of this program.  Fortunately, it’s not a big ask.  The tiny homes cost about $5,500 a year to run, including a part time social worker.  I would ask you to make a donation or a pledge to this outreach ministry.  As little or as much as you can spare will be appreciated and important.

WOW!  You have responded in your usual super generous way to our plea for school supplies!  Take note of the front pews on the sides.  They are getting stacked with backpacks, socks, pencils, notebooks, and all manner of things for school children.  “Whatever you do to the least of these, you do also to me.”  Thank you from the bottom of my schoolteacher heart.

In the meantime, know that each one of you is in my heart and prayers.  You are an amazing church family, full of generosity, love, curiosity, and ability. I’m happy to be in the boat with you.  I’ll see you on Sunday.
