7:00 pm Adult Ed Class, History of Christianity (on Zoom)
The History of Christianity, the First Four Centuries
How did handful of the followers of Jesus come to convert an empire? Some days after Jesus’s crucifixion, eleven men and several women came to believe he had been raised from the dead. Before four centuries had passed, these twenty or so Jews from rural Galilee became a church of some thirty million. How does a religion gain thirty million adherents in three hundred years? We will address this question and include these topics among others: Christian demography, epidemics or plagues, the role of women, and Christian ethics.
The class is scheduled to meet on Zoom Wednesday evenings, beginning
April 17 at 7pm and is led by Jack Marietta (very retired historian).
