Spiritual Life
During Lent our thoughts often turn to our spiritual lives and do what we can to improve them. Sometimes this means letting go of the things that separate us from God or taking on new disciplines that move us closer to God. The hardest thing about having a spiritual life is that we cannot have a spiritual life without a real physical life. Being spiritual cannot remove us from the world. We still have deadlines to meet, and that pain in our knees that won’t go away. The telephone still rings with bad news, the ants still move into the kitchen. Real life will not stop, no matter how well we concentrate on prayer, scripture, and works of charity. It makes keeping Lent hard sometimes, but all is not lost. Remember that real life is spiritual and stop trying to separate them. When real life interrupts your prayer, instead of getting frustrated or resentful, address it spiritually. It is a piece of real life that is separating you from God or could it be bringing you closer to God? Is it a phone call from someone who needs a loving ear or is it another ping from that annoying app? If your knees hurt, how do you approach pain spiritually? Are you resentful or accepting? As you seek relief, are you praying for healing, giving thanks for your care team, and caring for them in return? Is there a way you can use your interruptions, deadlines, and aches to bring you closer to God? Don’t try to live two lives, one spiritual and the other real. Trying to do the impossible will just frustrate you. Instead, live your real life, the only life you have, spiritually.

Scam Alert
Once again, email scammers are out and about. This week I received an email from an unknown person requesting a copy of our directory and a parishioner received an email purporting to come from me, but from an unfamiliar address. Please remember never to share your parish directory with anyone whom you do not know for certain is a part of Resurrection and to treat every email with suspicion.
