It’s easy being green
We have come into the Epiphany season. It is a season of dawning light, both as our days grow longer and in the scripture passages we’ll hear in church. We began with the visit of the Magi and the Feast of the Revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ to the Gentiles. On the first Sunday we heard about the great Theophany at Jesus’ baptism. As the Sundays and feast days go by we’ll mark the Conversion of St. Paul, the Confession of St. Peter, the Feat of the Presentation, Candlemas, the calling of many disciples. With all of this light and revelation one would think that the color of the season would be white rather than the green of ordinary things. I think, though, that it is important. The green of the Epiphany season reminds us that, for all the flashy, sparkly stories, most of God’s revelation is in the ordinary and every day. God’s revelation is in the things that people tend to pass over. Revelation is in the conversations between friends, the realizations that dawn on us in the shower, the scent of winter daphne blooming, and the crocuses pushing their way into the light. Or cast your gaze wider to find that revelation can be “big like an ocean, or important like a mountain.” It is often best hidden in the things that are, in many ways, too large to see. The green of Epiphany is a reminder that every bush is burning, for those who turn aside to see. Watch and listen this green time and discover what God is revealing to you.
Annual Meeting
The Annual Meeting of the Church of the Resurrection will be held on Sunday, January 25 after the 10:30 service. In addition the Rector’s annual “State of the Parish” address we will hear about the budget for 2026, the plans for the future of the Eugene/Springfield area churches, and the Vestry’s thoughts on the use of our property. We’ll also elect three new persons to the Vestry and four persons to serve as our Delegates and Alternate Delegate to our Central Convocation and Diocesan Convention in October. If you feel called to or curious about serving in either position, please contact Fr. Birch or any Vestry member ASAP. It is not true of every church, but leading the church of the Resurrection is both fun and extremely rewarding.
