Annual Meeting
The Annual Meeting of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection will be this Sunday, January 25, following the 10:30 service. We will have a brief break after the service and then reconvene in the church for our presentations and deliberations.
During this time when many see democracy being threatened, this is an easy way for us to remind ourselves of how a representative democracy is designed to function. We will gather to choose representatives whose service is not self-aggrandizement but a willing gift of their time, knowledge, creativity, and talents. We will elect new members of the Vestry, whom we will entrust with our wealth and with the vision of our community. They will not make us great again. Instead, they will love the greatness they see within us and help it to flourish. We will elect Delegates who will take part in the leadership of the Central Convocation and the Episcopal Church in Western Washington. We aren’t sending them to impose our will, but to remind us all that “The Diocese” is all of us.
Alas, representative democracy does not always work the way we hope it will. Our two candidates for three open Vestry positions are Emilia Heidrick and Lucy Vinis. The Parish Bylaws do not permit nominations from the floor, and so the Vestry will be responsible for electing someone to fill the vacant position. The candidates for our three Delegate and one Alternate Delegate position are Doug Bonham, Melissa Handley, Sandi Orbell, and Jerry Jacobson, making for a complete slate.
I hope that you will all come to join the discussion, to hear about the state of the parish and our hopes for the future, to learn about how the Vestry is stewarding our human, financial, and physical resources, and to responsibly take your part in our system of governance.
And if high minded political ideals are not enough, at least come vote for the best chili.
